President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev Emphasizes Kazakhstan’s National Interests and Strategic Tasks in Foreign Policy
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev recently highlighted the national interests and strategic tasks of Kazakhstan’s foreign policy in a recent interview with the Egemen Qazaqstan newspaper released on Jan. 3.
President Tokayev reiterated the country’s priorities, including ensuring the inviolability of sovereignty and territorial integrity, protecting the rights and interests of its citizens, and creating favorable external conditions for sustainable economic growth. In the current difficult geopolitical conditions, he stressed the importance of developing pragmatic cooperation with all foreign partners, especially neighbors.
He also emphasized the relevance of the C5+ format, highlighting Central Asia’s dynamic development and its broad opportunities in trade, investment, business, and innovation. As such, interest in Central Asia has significantly increased worldwide.
In addition, President Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan will chair several influential regional and international organizations and associations this year. He mentioned the Astana International Forum in June, which will host leaders of various states and global companies to discuss global topics such as climate change, food shortages, and energy security.
Furthermore, Tokayev discussed Kazakhstan’s relations with China, describing them as developing in the spirit of friendship, good neighborliness, and eternal strategic partnership. He emphasized the importance of cooperating with China and utilizing friendly relations and mutual trust to mutual advantage.
Regarding Russia, the President emphasized the high level of relations between Kazakhstan and Moscow, highlighting the over 300 treaties and agreements between the two countries. He also noted the upcoming presidential election in Russia and its international significance.
President Tokayev’s recent statements underscore Kazakhstan’s commitment to advancing its national interests and objectives in external relations, promoting stability, and maximizing opportunities for economic growth and international cooperation.
