President Trump Announces No Tariff Exemptions
US President Donald Trump has made it clear that there will be no tariff exceptions when it comes to semiconductors and the entire electronic supply chain. Trump shared this information on his Truth Social social media account.
Trump emphasized the need to address unfair trade balances and non-monetary tariff barriers, especially those that impact the United States from China. He pointed out that products subject to the existing 20 percent tariffs due to the Fentanyl crisis will now be in a different tariff category.
Furthermore, Trump announced upcoming national security tariff investigations that will focus on semiconductors and all electronic supply chains. He stressed the importance of producing these products in the United States to avoid being dependent on other countries, particularly those engaged in unfavorable trade practices like China.
Trade Minister Lutnick also clarified that exemptions for certain technology products are not permanent. He indicated that the exemption granted to some technology products based on reciprocity will be short-lived, particularly in semiconductor tariffs.
The US administration has exempted certain technology products, including computers, smartphones, chips, and more, from additional tariffs in accordance with regulations on tariff practices based on reciprocity.
