TRNC President Urges Immediate Action to Reduce Fatal Traffic Accidents

President Ersin Tatar of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has called for decisive measures to be taken to reduce the number of fatal traffic accidents in the country. Speaking after a meeting with traffic police and experts, Tatar highlighted the fact that the number of fatalities on TRNC roads is four times higher than in EU member states. He warned that the situation was a bitter reality that affected almost every family, and that political steps were needed to address the issue.

At the meeting, Tatar was joined by Police General Directorate Traffic Manager İbrahim Ulusoy, Traffic Department Manager Ahmet Aydın, Traffic Accident Prevention Association President Mehmet Avcı, Police General Directorate Traffic Supervisor Serdar Karpuzcu, and President Special Advisor Gökhan Güler.

President Tatar stressed the need for realistic, result-oriented action based on scientific data, rather than populist policies. He called on all stakeholders to accept responsibility for the problem and work towards solutions. Tatar identified education, infrastructure, emergency rescue, medical care, and rehabilitation services, as well as increased inspections and traffic awareness, as key areas for action.

The President pledged to continue following progress on infrastructure improvements in the country, and called on all citizens to act responsibly and observe traffic rules to help avoid accidents. He stressed that each human life was precious, and implored drivers and pedestrians to act sensitively and avoid careless behavior that could lead to tragedy.
