Prime Minister Considers Implementing Price Freeze Again

The spring session of the Parliament has commenced, with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán addressing MPs on various key issues. He highlighted the economic situation, a potential price freeze, and the ongoing discussions with Brussels over migration and EU funds.
During his speech, Mr. Orbán announced the successful launch of the workers’ loan scheme, emphasizing the growing number of applications exceeding ten thousand. Additionally, he highlighted incentives for young workers, including tax exemptions for individuals under 25 and interest-free loans to kickstart their careers.
The government has also introduced several economic measures, such as a rural home renovation scheme, a preferential VAT rate for new residential properties, and a housing capital program to stimulate the construction of new homes. Family policies have been expanded, with plans to double child tax benefits and offer lifetime income tax exemptions for working mothers with two or three children.
Furthermore, the government aims to raise wages incrementally, with the goal of bringing the minimum wage closer to 1,000 euros and the average wage to 1 million forints. Various sectors, including education, healthcare, and law enforcement, have also seen increases in salaries and benefits.
In response to high prices, Mr. Orbán warned of potential price freezes and profit restrictions if agreements to lower prices are not reached. The Prime Minister also emphasized Hungary’s opposition to the EU migration pact and resistance to external pressure from Brussels.
Looking ahead, Mr. Orbán expressed his desire for both economic and political breakthroughs in 2025. He highlighted the rise of anti-migration, pro-family, and patriotic forces in the West, emphasizing the need for strength and unity to enforce these values.
In closing, Mr. Orbán outlined plans to tackle corruption within Hungary by appointing a government commissioner for the task. The government’s vision for the future involves promoting Hungarian values and resilience on both domestic and international fronts.
