Probe into Şanlıurfa Police Threatening Woman on Street
An investigation has been initiated in Şanlıurfa, Turkey, against a police officer who allegedly threatened a woman on the street. The incident occurred when Aziz Beyaztaş, who was reportedly on trial for drug crimes, and his older sister went to the Martyrs’ Police Station to renew their identity cards and give testimony at the courthouse.
After the identity renewal process, a police officer from Sarayönü Police Station demanded to detain Aziz Beyaztaş, leading to a confrontation. It is reported that the police officer used pepper spray and hit Aziz Beyaztaş on the head with the butt of his gun while threatening to “skin” him. The footage of the incident was widely shared on social media and sparked public outrage.
The Beyaztaş siblings were eventually taken to the hospital by the police and filed a complaint against the officer. However, they themselves were later detained following their procedures.
