Democratic Party (DP) Ready for New Negotiation Process in Cyprus
Democratic Party (DP) Secretary General and MP Serhat Akpınar has emphasized the importance of equality in the negotiation process for a permanent solution in Cyprus. Akpınar stated that the DP is prepared for a new negotiation process and is dedicated to working towards a resolution in Cyprus.
In a written statement, Akpınar discussed the contacts and work of Maria Angela Holguin, the Personal Representative of the United Nations (UN) Secretary General in Cyprus. He noted that Holguin has highlighted the necessity for reconciliation and a new path in Cyprus, but there is currently no common ground for reconciliation. The DP has closely monitored Holguin’s efforts over the past six months and has been vocal about their support for a new negotiation process.
Akpınar reiterated the DP’s commitment to the principles of ‘equal sovereignty’ and ‘equal international status’ as crucial for a healthy negotiation process. He stated, “DP once again shares with Cyprus and the international community that it is important for the parties to confirm these principles in order for the negotiation process to begin and be carried out healthily.” The DP is ready to engage in a new negotiation process to bring about a resolution in Cyprus.
As the DP stands firm in its dedication to the Cyprus cause, Akpınar emphasized that the party is prepared to play an active role in shaping a new era and working towards a sustainable solution for the island.
