Savings measure proposal from the promoter: The treasury aid of the parties should be abolished
Mustafa Destici, the chairman of the BBP, visited Samsun as part of his visits to the provinces where his party achieved success in the 31 March 2024 Local Government Elections. During his visit, he met with the press and discussed important issues on the country’s agenda. Destici emphasized the need for changes in the political parties law and election law for the constitution to be civilianized and nationalized. He stated that without these changes, it would be impossible to talk about a new civilian constitution.
In support of the recent austerity measures announced by Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, Destici expressed his party’s backing for these measures. However, he also raised the question of why the treasury aid provided to political parties was not abolished. He highlighted the significant amount of money given to political parties, especially during election years, and called for the elimination of this aid to achieve real savings.
Destici also emphasized the importance of continuing support for production, especially for farmers, and stated that this support should not be affected by savings measures. He called for a law change to abolish the unfair and disproportionate treasury aid given to political parties.
Furthermore, Destici reiterated his party’s long-standing advocacy for a new constitution, emphasizing the need for it to be approved by the public through a referendum. He stressed that a constitution that is not approved by the nation would be semi-legitimate and called for a focus on democratization and the reflection of national will in the government.
