Minister Goktas Emphasizes Importance of Family in Social Policies
Minister Goktas recently spoke at the Promotion Meeting of the Vision Document and Action Plan for the Protection and Strengthening of the Family (2024-2028) held at the Presidential Complex Exhibition Hall. During his speech, he highlighted the significance of placing the family at the center of all social policies.
Goktas expressed that the family is essential for the transfer of national and spiritual values between generations and for building a strong society. He emphasized the role of strong families in creating resilient communities that can withstand various risks.
The Minister acknowledged the challenges facing families today, including factors such as disasters, globalization, demographic changes, digitalization, and individualization. These issues weaken family ties and make individuals vulnerable to life’s difficulties, threatening the traditional family structure and values.
Goktas also addressed the declining number of marriages in the country, the increase in divorce rates, and the decreasing fertility rate. He stressed the importance of protecting and strengthening the institution of the family against global risks and demographic transformations.
The Vision Document and Action Plan announced by Goktas includes strategic goals to protect families, increase welfare levels, improve social policies, support families in the digitalization process, and enhance resilience during disasters. The plan was developed in collaboration with representatives of ministries, public institutions, universities, and non-governmental organizations.
Goktas highlighted the need to combat harmful trends and habits that threaten families, particularly children and young people. He called for increased awareness and protection of family members in the digital world, where communication within families may be weakened by digital distractions.
In addition, Goktas outlined plans to establish a Family Institute focused on conducting research to strengthen family policies and support marriage based on love, compassion, unity, and solidarity. The Ministry aims to protect all members of the family, including women, children, the elderly, and disabled individuals, both domestically and internationally.
The Minister concluded by announcing that Turkey will host the First Social Policy Ministerial Meeting of the Organization of Turkish States. Overall, Goktas’s speech highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting and protecting families through comprehensive and coordinated efforts.
