Push for New Border Gate Openings at Metehan

A group called the “United Cyprus-Bi-Communal Peace Initiative” recently staged a protest at the Metehan Border Gate, calling for the opening of new crossing gates. The initiative emphasized that thousands of people rely on checkpoints for various purposes such as work, education, health, trade, and social interactions, and that the establishment of new crossing points would greatly improve people’s daily lives.
In their statement, the group highlighted the urgent need for measures to reduce delays, particularly at the Metehan Border Gate, and urged authorities to hold a tender and initiate construction work without delay. The protestors believe that the opening of new crossing gates will not only facilitate movement between the two sides but also contribute to building trust and fostering peace in the region.
The “United Cyprus-Bi-Communal Peace Initiative” is determined to continue advocating for the establishment of new crossing points and will push for concrete actions to be taken to address the current challenges faced by people crossing the border. Their protest serves as a reminder of the importance of promoting unity, understanding, and cooperation between the communities in Cyprus.
