Quadruple Summit in Moscow Marks Start of Syria Normalization Efforts

Foreign ministers of the Assad regime in Turkey, Russia, Iran, and Syria have come together in Moscow to hold consultations on resolving the Syrian crisis. The meeting is part of the normalization steps with Syria and will be chaired by Lavrov, who will make the opening speech in the open to the press. Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, had previously announced the meeting’s scheduled date of May 10, where foreign ministers of Turkey, Syria, Russia, and Iran were expected to attend.
In a recent statement on NTV, Çavuşoğlu stated that “a ministerial meeting may be on May 10,” adding that if the withdrawal of soldiers happened before stabilizing the areas, then terrorist organizations would fill the gap. He further warned that this could become a terror corridor, and many immigrants may come to the Turkish border. Çavuşoğlu emphasized that neither the words of the opposition nor the risky regime’s approach to “let Turkey withdraw, let’s talk later,” is a realistic approach.
Growing disorders and unrest have been a long-standing issue in Syria, resulting in a disastrous humanitarian crisis, thereby pushing millions of Syrians to flee the region. The meeting’s objective is to find a resolution to the Syrian crisis and improve the living conditions of the Syrian people in the affected regions. The meeting’s outcome and the steps that the foreign ministers would decide to take are awaited with bated breath.
