Queen Releases New Video of Historic Budapest Concert from 1986
Legendary rock band Queen has thrilled fans once again by releasing a new video of their iconic performance in Budapest from 1986. The video features the band’s performance of “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” during their historic concert at the Népstadion (People’s Stadium), now known as the Ferenc Puskas Stadium.
This concert marked Queen’s first appearance across the Iron Curtain in Hungary on July 27, 1986, making it a significant moment in rock history for the entire Eastern Bloc. The event drew a crowd of 70,000 enthusiastic fans, showcasing the band’s immense popularity and influence.
The 1986 Budapest concert was part of Queen’s final tour with original lead singer Freddie Mercury, known as The Magic Tour. To make the performance even more special, Mercury learned and performed a beautiful Hungarian folksong, “Spring Wind Blows Water,” captivating the audience with his talent and versatility.
Queen’s story was immortalized in the 2018 film “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and a documentary of the Budapest concert was produced at the expense of the Hungarian state. Originally titled “Queen Live In Budapest,” the film premiered in the Hungarian capital in December 1986. In 2012, the concert film was released worldwide on Blu-ray and DVD with a new title: “Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen Live in Budapest.”
Despite Freddie Mercury’s untimely death in 1991, Queen’s music continues to resonate with audiences worldwide. The band released their final album featuring Mercury’s vocals, “Made in Heaven,” in 1995. While John Deacon retired in 1997, Brian May and Roger Taylor have continued to make appearances together, with occasional collaborations with vocalists like Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert.
