Rabies Outbreak in Gaziantep: Two Neighborhoods Quarantined

An outbreak of rabies in two districts in Turkey has led to the vaccination of citizens and animals in the affected areas. The incidents occurred in Kazıklı District on February 12 and Yolbaşı District on May 24, where stray dogs attacked residents.

Upon receiving reports of the attacks, the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry sent teams to capture the dogs and conduct examinations. It was later confirmed that the dogs were rabid, prompting the authorities to take immediate action to contain the spread of the disease.

Residents who were attacked by the rabid dogs were promptly vaccinated against rabies at İslahiye State Hospital. Additionally, a 6-month quarantine was imposed in the neighborhoods where the cases were detected, with signs warning of the rabies outbreak posted at the entrances.

To prevent further incidents, teams from the Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry carried out vaccination campaigns on animals in the affected areas. The coordinated efforts of the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, İslahiye Municipality, and District Gendarmerie Command have been instrumental in managing the situation and safeguarding public health.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any sightings of stray animals to prevent further spread of rabies in the region.
