Re-evaluation of Minimum Wage Yields No Changes – BRTK

Minimum wage remains the same after re-evaluation

The Minimum Wage Determination Commission Chairman, Tahir Serhat Asgari, has announced that the minimum wage will remain unchanged at 43,469 TL. This decision comes after objections were raised regarding the initial proposal.

In a statement, Serhat mentioned that Prime Minister Ünal Üsel’s instructions led to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security initiating salary support for TRNC citizens who are working for minimum wage.

The Commission, which includes representatives from various workers’ unions and the employer’s side, gathered to discuss the objections and re-evaluate the minimum wage. Despite differing opinions from all parties involved, the majority ultimately voted in favor of maintaining the current minimum wage.

As of January 1st, the minimum wage will be set at 43,469 TL per month. Additionally, a discount of 30 percent will be applied for apprentices aged 15 to 17 who are hired under these criteria.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security is also working on providing salary support to TRNC citizens who are working for minimum wage, in line with the Prime Minister’s instructions.

Overall, the decision to keep the minimum wage the same is aimed at supporting workers in the TRNC and ensuring fair compensation for their labor.
