Recap of Weekend Events in Astana: January’s Highlights
As January comes to a close, the Kazakh capital of Astana is abuzz with a variety of events, providing residents and visitors with a culturally rich and entertaining weekend. From festivals and art exhibitions to sports competitions and musical performances, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The OratorFest festival kicks off the weekend, featuring three shifts with the participation of eight experienced coaches and four beginner trainers who will share their discoveries in the field of soft skills development. Workshops on biohacking, freestyle rap, emotional intelligence, and charisma will be offered. The festival will take place at Nazarbayev University, located at 53 Kabanbay Batyr Ave. Attendance is free, but registration is required.
For art enthusiasts, the Great Women of the World exhibition will run from January 27 to February 19 at the Has Sanat Art Gallery. The exhibition showcases paintings by Kazakh artists and is dedicated to notable women in Kazakh history, including Aliya Modagulova, Dina Nurpeisova, and Domalaq Ana, as well as portraits of historical figures from Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkey.
Sports fans can catch the World Indoor Tour Gold athletics competition at the Qazaqstan Track and Field Arena on January 27. Equivalent to the well-known Diamond League series, the World Indoor Tour Gold brings together the world’s top athletes. Tickets are available for purchase.
For those interested in the performing arts, the ballet “Beethoven – Immortality – Love” will be showcased at the Astana Operas on January 27 and 28. The performance depicts the life and fate of the great German composer and features a musical foundation formed by Beethoven’s compositions, as well as music from Bach, Haydn, Mozart, and contemporary composer Dirk Haubrich.
Lastly, the musical “Aldar Kose” will be presented at the Qazaqstan Central Concert Hall on January 27 and 28, showcasing the story of Kazakh folklore’s favorite character. The musical aims to promote moral and spiritual values and encapsulate folk wisdom.
