Record 28 Million Tons of Cargo Transported from Kazakhstan to China

Cargo transportation between Kazakhstan and China has seen a significant increase, reaching a record level of over 28 million tons, according to reports from the Transport Ministry’s press service. This 22% growth compared to 2022 was announced during the first Kazakh-Chinese grain forum in China.

In addition to this milestone, Kazakhstan’s shippers have exported 12.6 million tons, showing a remarkable 35% increase from the previous year.

During the forum, representatives from the ministry, business companies, and other government agencies visited the new terminal at the Alashankou station’s bonded zone. This terminal is specifically designed for unloading grain crops and vegetable oils, facilitating the transportation and trade between the two countries.

The parties also reached agreements on transportation technology and increasing the acceptance of Kazakh agricultural products in China. A working group will be established to address any issues related to export transportation to China.

Nurzhan Kelbuganov, Deputy Chairman of the Railway and Water Transport Committee, pointed out that barley and wheat are among the main crops that Kazakhstan supplies to China. He highlighted the successful collaboration between the two countries, which led to a significant increase in grain exports after the pandemic. In 2021, around 347,000 tons were exported to China, which increased to 747,000 tons in 2022, and reached 2,227,000 tons in 2023, marking a threefold increase.

This successful partnership and growth in cargo transportation highlight the strong economic ties between Kazakhstan and China, benefiting both countries’ economies and promoting international trade.
