Record-breaking Fuel Price Reductions in 2021

Fuel prices are expected to see a significant drop at Hungarian petrol stations starting today, with the price of 95-octane petrol potentially breaking below the 600 forints mark at some locations. According to Holtankoljak.hu, the purchase price of petrol has decreased by 9 forints and diesel by 7 forints gross, leading to the possibility of a noticeable decline in fuel costs for consumers.

The average price of 95-octane petrol now stands at 598 forints (1.49 euros) per liter, while diesel is priced at 616 forints (1.64 euros) per liter following the recent changes. This drop in prices marks the largest reduction seen this year, with the last significant decrease occurring four months ago in November.

The fluctuation in fuel prices earlier this year saw a rapid increase in costs, but a downward trend has been observed since the second half of February. Factors contributing to this trend include the strengthening of the forint and international developments such as the decision by OPEC+ to increase oil production from April onwards.

As oil prices fell in response to the production increase announcement, the benchmark Brent oil price in Europe dropped below 71 US dollars, reaching its lowest point since September of the previous year. This reduction in oil prices is expected to lead to more affordable fuel prices for consumers in Hungary in the coming days.

Overall, the current drop in fuel prices represents a positive development for consumers and reflects the impact of both local and global factors on the cost of petrol and diesel in Hungary.
