Regulating Prices and Labels in Markets
In a recent series of inspections conducted by the Provincial Directorate of Commerce in Izmir, teams have been meticulously comparing labels, cash register prices, and documents in markets across the city. Not only were the 3-month buying and selling prices of products examined during these inspections, but they also took place in both touristic districts and central areas.
One specific inspection took place at a market in a shopping center in Aydın’s Efeler district, where the teams diligently compared prices on the aisles with those at the cash register. Additionally, the identity information of products in the vegetable and fruit section was cross-referenced through the state registration system.
Furthermore, efforts have been made to combat unfair price increases through these inspections. Balıkesir Provincial Director of Trade İlhan Pehlivan led his team in inspecting markets on Üçpınar Street, where they addressed discrepancies between shelf and case prices for certain products. Pehlivan emphasized the importance of maintaining order in the label system within markets.
In a similar vein, Tekirdağ Trade Directorate teams have also been combing through the labels of basic food and necessity products in chain markets to ensure there are no exorbitant price increases. They have been checking for discrepancies between label and cash prices, the last change date of product prices, and previous price lists.
Provincial Director of Commerce Mehmet Furtına has reaffirmed that these inspections will continue throughout the province to uphold fair pricing practices. With a focus on transparency and integrity, these efforts aim to protect consumers and promote a level playing field in the marketplace.
