New Measures Implemented by Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for Food Safety Inspection
Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry made an important statement regarding the inspection process for food safety in Turkey. The ministry clarified that there have been misconceptions in some press and broadcasting organizations about the sampling and analysis of certain food products such as pide, pastry, and lahmacun.
In their statement, the ministry emphasized that the current annual sampling inspection program includes taking samples from both the raw materials used in food preparation and the final products in mass consumption places. The ministry further explained that the decision to exclude certain products from sampling was made due to the complexity of evaluating these items accurately.
Food items like pita, börek, and lahmacun often contain a combination of vegetables (such as vegetable and fruit components) and animal products (such as red meat, poultry, and fish) based on consumer demands. The ministry highlighted that taking samples from these products at an early stage could lead to incorrect assessment and subsequently incorrect practices.
The new instruction from the ministry aims to address this issue by focusing on specific control measures. The control officers will continue inspecting the mortars of products like pide, lahmacun, and pastry at mass consumption places, with a particular focus on searching for single hoof and pork components (excluding poultry meat). Additionally, the ministry emphasizes the importance of reporting the components of all food items offered in mass consumption places to both control officers and consumers upon request.
It is essential to note that these measures are part of the ministry’s commitment to protecting consumer health at the highest level. The ministry reassures the public that all types of controls will continue uninterrupted.
