“Remembering Gün Sazak: The Nationalist Martyr Who Died in Obscurity”

Eskişehir Celebrates Nationalist Martyr Gün Sazak
Eskişehir’s thirteenth Nationalist Martyr Gün Sazak was born in Ankara in 1932. Sazak’s father, Emin Sazak, hailed from the Sazak Village of Mihalıççık District in Eskişehir. He completed his primary and secondary education in Ankara and later studied high school in Ankara Maarif College. He then moved to California to study agriculture and eventually established a construction company, which built many important facilities in Turkey’s history.
Sazak joined the Nationalist Movement Party in 1971 and became an active politician, serving as Vice President. However, he gained widespread recognition as Minister of Customs and Monopoly in 1977, where he fought against smuggling. After his successful tenure, Sazak was tragically shot in the back in front of his home in Ankara on May 27, 1980, and was martyred. His grave is currently located in Eskişehir’s Mihalıççık Sazak Village.
Eskişehir’s people and officials continue to honor the memory of Gün Sazak as a true patriot and martyr for his contribution to Turkey’s political and economic landscape. His story serves as an inspiration for Turkey’s current and future generations, reminding them of the importance of patriotism, honesty, and selflessness in politics. Overall, Sazak’s life, work, and legacy will inspire many around the world.
