Remembering Hrant Dink: 18 Years After His Death
Today, a memorial ceremony was held at 15.00 to commemorate the life of Agos Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Hrant Dink, who tragically lost his life in an armed attack on January 19, 2007. The ceremony took place in front of Sebat Apartment, the former headquarters of Agos Newspaper where Hrant Dink was killed.
Police teams took extensive security measures on Halaskargazi Street, where the Sebat apartment building is located. Attendees were subjected to body scanning before entering the ceremony area.
Family members, close friends, and loved ones of Hrant Dink gathered at Sebat Apartment with banners to honor his memory. A speech was given by Hrant Dink’s friend Takuhi Tomasyan during the ceremony.
In his emotional address, Tomasyan expressed, “My dear Hrant, my dear brother, 18 years have passed since that terrible Friday, January 19, 2007. Every year on this day, thousands of your dear brothers gather here to remember you. We still curse the hands that took you from us and the environment that led to that tragedy. There is no old pain or new pain, just an ongoing sense of loss.”
The commemoration ceremony was a heartfelt tribute to Hrant Dink’s legacy of love for his people, his land, democracy, peace, and freedom. Attendees reflected on the impact he had on their lives and society as a whole, ensuring that his memory lives on.
