Remembering Taha Duymaz: 1 Year Later
Today marks the 1st anniversary of the tragic passing of Taha Duymaz, a young social media influencer known for his cooking videos. Taha, along with his two brothers, lost their lives under the rubble during the devastating earthquakes in Hatay on February 6th last year.
Taha Duymaz, a resident of Güveççi Village in Hatay’s Yayladağ district, was admired for his ability to create delicious dishes with simple ingredients. Despite leaving school in the 4th grade and struggling with health issues, Taha’s passion for cooking captured the hearts of a large audience on social media. With the help of his sister, he regularly shared cooking videos on platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, amassing 1.2 million and 1.9 million followers respectively.
Tragically, at the young age of 20, Taha’s promising life was cut short in the earthquake that also took the lives of his two siblings. Today, all that remains of Taha are the memories and the cooking videos he created for his dedicated followers.
Meryem Duymaz, the grieving mother of Taha and his siblings, visits their graves every day, still coming to terms with the heartbreaking loss. The family’s unimaginable tragedy serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of natural disasters on the lives of individuals and communities.
