Remembering Ziya Rızkı: BRTK Pays Tribute
Ceremonies Commemorate Ziya Rızkı’s Contributions to Turkish Cypriot People
On the anniversary of the death of Ziya Rızkı, a former member of parliament, mayor, mujahideen commander, serdar, and sportsman, ceremonies were held to honor his significant contributions to the struggle for existence of the Turkish Cypriot people.
The first ceremony took place in front of Ziya Rızkı’s bust in Ziya Rızkı Square, followed by a second ceremony at his grave in Karaoğlanoğlu Cemetery.
Various dignitaries attended the ceremonies, including Fourth President Mustafa Akıncı, MPs, Communal Democracy Party President Zeki Çeler, Kyrenia Mayor Murat Şenkul, Ziya Rızkı Foundation Board of Trustees Chairman, CTP Deputy Dr. Ceyhun Biri, foundation members, Ziya Rızkı’s family, and loved ones.
During the ceremonies, wreaths were laid on the bust of Ziya Rızkı, and a minute of silence was observed. In his speech, Fourth President Mustafa Akıncı praised Ziya Rızkı as a man of discipline, a social democrat, and a supra-partisan personality who was respected across party lines.
TDP President Zeki Çeler emphasized Rızkı’s commitment to serving all people without discrimination and vowed to continue upholding his principles. Mayor of Kyrenia, Murat Şenkul, stressed the importance of introducing Ziya Rızkı’s legacy to younger generations and fostering a sense of pride in their country.
Ziya Rızkı Foundation Board of Trustees Chairman, CTP Deputy Dr. Ceyhun Biri, highlighted Rızkı’s dedication to his people and his unwavering support for justice, law, and honesty.
Overall, the ceremonies served as a reminder of Ziya Rızkı’s lasting impact on the Turkish Cypriot community and the values he stood for throughout his life.
