Investigation into Fake Prescription Scandal Continues
The investigation and court process surrounding the issuance of fake prescriptions is still ongoing. As of September 13, the number of people arrested in connection with this scandal has risen to 45, including 15 doctors, 21 pharmacists, 3 pharmacy employees, and 6 civilians.
While many of the suspects have been released on bail pending their court hearings, the issue was brought up today at the General Assembly of the Republic Assembly. Tufan Erhürman, the Chairman of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), addressed the assembly, stating that the process has been distressing and traumatic. Although serious crimes may have been committed, Erhürman emphasized the importance of ensuring a fair and just process for all involved. He also highlighted the impact of the ongoing investigation on the willingness of doctors to prescribe medications covered by social insurance.
Erhürman criticized the practice of handcuffing suspects during the investigation. Prime Minister Ünal Üstel also addressed the issue in Parliament, expressing his desire for a swift resolution and urging the Public Prosecution Office to complete the investigation promptly.
Üstel commented on the practice of handcuffing all suspects, stating that it was carried out without discrimination. He announced the formation of a committee in collaboration with the Union of Bar Associations to reevaluate the handcuffing instruction and determine who should and should not be subjected to this measure.
The scandal surrounding fake prescriptions has raised concerns within the medical community and the public at large. The investigation and upcoming court proceedings will shed further light on the extent of the corruption and bring those responsible to justice.
