Rescue Operation Saves 60 Irregular Immigrants off Ayvalık Coast

Coast Guard rescues 60 immigrants off the coast of Ayvalık
The Turkish Coast Guard sprang into action after receiving reports of immigrants stranded in life rafts off the coast of Ayvalık. The team, aboard the Coast Guard boat “KB-111”, successfully rescued 40 immigrants, including women and children, who had been forced back by Greek elements.
In a separate incident, another group of irregular immigrants on a rubber boat off the coast of Ayvalık was rescued by the Coast Guard team aboard the boat “KB-115”. These 20 immigrants had also been pushed back into Turkish territorial waters by Greek elements. The Coast Guard brought them safely ashore.
After being brought to the Coast Guard Command on Cunda Island, the immigrants were provided with humanitarian aid including food, beverages, medicine, and medical supplies. They were then transferred to the Balıkesir Provincial Immigration Administration for further assistance.
These rescues demonstrate the ongoing challenges faced by immigrants attempting to cross into Europe via the Aegean Sea. The Turkish Coast Guard remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of those in need, even in the face of difficult and dangerous conditions.
