Gaziantep Zoo Provides Shelter for Illegal Animals
Gaziantep Zoo, known as the largest zoo in Turkey, has recently taken in two crocodiles that were brought into the country illegally. These crocodiles, captured in Istanbul, were transported to Gaziantep for shelter and survival.
The male and female crocodiles were brought to Gaziantep by private vehicle and placed in new living spaces within the city. Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Natural Life Park Manager Celal Özsoyler explained that they have set up heated shelters for the crocodiles to ensure they are comfortable and safe.
“Thanks to the collaboration with the Istanbul National Parks 1st Regional Directorate, we were able to provide a home for these crocodiles,” said Özsoyler. “These wild animals belong in nature or in zoos, so it was important for us to take them in and care for them properly.”
The crocodiles are currently in the adaptation process and are being closely monitored by the zoo staff. Special attention is being given to maintaining the right temperature and humidity levels in their shelters to ensure their well-being.
“We are confident that with time, these crocodiles will start feeding and adapt to their new environment,” Özsoyler added. “Their health condition is good and we are optimistic about their future in our natural life park.”
Gaziantep Zoo continues to play a vital role in wildlife conservation and protection, providing a safe haven for animals in need of care and rehabilitation.
