Retirees Anticipate January Salary Boost
Civil Servants and Retirees to Receive Augmented Pay Difference in the Upcoming Months
In the first half of 2024, civil servants and retired civil servants were given a raise of 49.25 percent. However, the difference in raise has not been paid to these groups yet. The question on everyone’s minds is when will the additional payments be made?
According to Social Security Counselor Emin Yılmaz, civil servants receive their salaries on the 15th of each month and will see the 49.25% increase difference on their payroll. He also mentioned that the 14-day difference in January is usually paid in addition to their salaries within 1 week. Retired civil servants, on the other hand, receive their salaries at the beginning of the month and will likely see the difference paid in addition to their February salary or in January.
The additional increase may also apply to SSK and Bağkur retirees. There is a current difference of 11.7% in the raises of civil servants, retired civil servants, and SSK and Bağkur retirees. This difference may be addressed by increasing the raise for SSK and Bağkur retirees. Another possibility is that SSK and Bağkur retirees may be given a raise of 5.4 percent less than that given to civil servants, as the inflation expectation for July 2024 is estimated to be 24%.
This revised system will lead to different raise rates for retired civil servants, SSK, and Bağkur retirees in July. The additional raise is planned to be introduced through the omnibus bill in January, and it is likely that the payments will be added to the February salaries or deposited into the accounts before the salary.
The possible increase in basic pensions is also on the agenda. Basic pensions may be increased to 7500 TL with a linear increase given above that, bringing the minimum pension to 10,317 TL. All alternatives will be presented to the President and decided at the Cabinet meeting to be held next week.
The entire additional raise process must go through the Parliament process before it can be implemented legally. This is especially important considering the salary payment schedules of SSK, Bağkur, and civil servant retirees. Yılmaz predicts that the omnibus bill to be introduced to the Parliament will also regulate other issues such as short-time working allowance and the retirement of housewives.
