Retirees: Banks Begin Negotiations with SGK for Promotional Offer
Banks and the Social Security Institution (SSI) have initiated discussions for increasing retiree promotions. Last year, a protocol was established setting the ceiling promotion amount in public banks at 12 thousand TL. However, due to pension increases and inflation rates, current promotion amounts are considered to be low. In response, some banks have already increased their promotional payments.
It is anticipated that promotions will see an increase in March, as negotiations between banks and SSI are ongoing for a new promotion agreement. The agreement made with 19 banks in the previous period is set to be updated, potentially resulting in higher promotion amounts for retirees.
Currently, promotional amounts in banks can go up to 21 thousand TL, with some public banks offering up to 24 thousand TL in promotional payments through double promotion campaigns. The process of protocol between SSI and banks involves setting a base figure by SGK, with contracts being made between retirees and banks for promotional payments.
The history of promotional payments shows a gradual increase, starting from 500 TL in 2017 and reaching up to 12 thousand TL in March 2023. The expectation is that the ceiling figure for promotions may reach 24 thousand TL from the current 12 thousand TL.
Private banks may also offer promotions above the ceiling amount, aiming to attract new customers. Pensioners who have received promotional payments previously are likely to benefit from the increased promotions, avoiding any deductions for differences in payment amounts.
Looking ahead, it is important to observe the official announcements from SGK and the finalized protocol for any specific details regarding increased promotions. If the new protocol is signed, retirees may receive additional payments according to the remaining part of their contract period. Increased promotions are expected to be paid in March, pending the banks’ approach to the agreement.
