Roof of Building in Rize Blown Off by Tornado
A tornado in Turkey’s Rize district causes damage to buildings and vehicles
A tornado that formed in the sea in the Çayeli district of Turkey’s Rize province made landfall, causing destruction along the shore. The tornado ripped off the roof of a building on the beach before dissipating.
Mayor of Çayeli, İsmail Hakkı Çiftçi, reported that the storm had a significant impact on the district in the morning hours. He mentioned that a tornado also emerged from the sea, reaching the shore and causing damage to a building. A car was also affected by debris falling from the damaged roof.
In addition to the destruction caused by the tornado, the fish cage installation work ongoing off the coast of the district was also damaged in the storm.
Furthermore, heavy downpour led to landslides in various parts of the province. In the village of Yemişlik, a parked minibus belonging to Adem Biri was swept away by a landslide. Citizens tied the minibus to a tree with ropes to prevent it from falling further, and a crane was used to pull it back onto the road.
Adem Biri shared his experience, stating that he heard a loud noise after the heavy rainfall. He explained, “The mudslide from above dragged my car onto the road, causing damage to both the road and my vehicle.”
The aftermath of the tornado and landslides serves as a reminder of the destructive power of natural disasters and the importance of preparedness and safety measures.
