Russia Declares State of Emergency After Black Sea Coast Oil Spill

The Fight Against Oil Pollution in Russia’s Black Sea Coast Continues
The Russian Ministry of Emergencies has issued a statement revealing ongoing efforts to combat environmental pollution resulting from oil spills on the country’s Black Sea coast.
In the statement, it was announced that a state of emergency has been declared to ensure a more effective response to the situation. Additional teams and financial resources are being allocated to the region to address the environmental crisis.
Several Turkish companies have also stepped up to offer support for the cleanup efforts in the affected areas.
The incidents in question involve two Russian tanker ships, the “Volgoneft-212” and “Volgoneft-239”, which were damaged in separate accidents on December 15 during a storm in the Kerch Strait of the Black Sea. Oil leaks have been detected from both tankers, with an estimated total of 4 thousand tons of oil spilled.
Efforts are currently underway to contain and clean up the leaked oil, with officials and volunteers working tirelessly to mitigate the environmental impact. Social media posts have shown the sea surface and beaches in coastal cities covered with oil, prompting concerns for the wildlife in the region.
Rescue operations for affected wild birds are also ongoing, as images circulating online depict the devastating effects of the oil pollution on the local ecosystem.Authorities are urging for continued collaboration and support from all stakeholders to address this environmental crisis in the Black Sea.
