Russia Seizes 9 Settlements in Kharkiv, Luhansk, and Donetsk in Past Week
The Ministry of Defense has released a statement providing details on the recent activities of the Russian army in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war from January 18-24.
According to the statement, the Russian army carried out attacks using high-precision weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) targeting critical elements of Ukraine’s gas, energy, and military industries, as well as ammunition depots, military airport infrastructure, UAV assembly and storage centers, and Ukrainian soldiers’ positions.
The statement reported that Russian air defense systems successfully shot down 17 US-made HIMARS missiles, 5 French-made Hammer guided bombs, and 752 UAVs during the week. Additionally, 17 Ukrainian soldiers were captured by Russian forces during the same period.
Furthermore, the statement revealed that the Russian army seized 9 settlements in the Kharkiv, Luhansk, and Donetsk regions in the past week. These settlements included Zapadnoye in the Kharkiv region, Novoyegorovka in the Luhansk People’s Republic, and several others in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
Since the beginning of the war, the statement disclosed that a significant number of military assets have been utilized, including aircraft, helicopters, UAVs, air defense missile systems, tanks, armored vehicles, multi-barreled rocket launchers, howitzers, mortars, and various weapons. It was also noted that a special military vehicle was destroyed during the operations.
The Ministry of Defense’s statement mentioned that the Ukrainian army has suffered heavy losses, with 54,460 soldiers, 318 tanks, 237 infantry fighting vehicles, 183 armored personnel carriers, and 1613 armored vehicles being reported lost in the Kursk region since August 2024.
Moreover, the statement highlighted that Ukraine’s Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson regions were unlawfully annexed by a decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 30, 2022.
