Russian Warplanes Carry Out Air Strikes in Idlib, Resulting in Civilian Casualties
According to reports from the opposition aircraft observatory, two Russian warplanes took off from Hmeymim Air Base in Latakia and conducted four air strikes on a carpenter workshop in the western part of Idlib city center at 10:02 local time.
The Civil Defense, also known as the White Helmets, reported that one civilian lost their life and five others were injured in the attack. The wounded individuals were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The situation in Idlib has been a matter of concern for several years. In 2017, Turkey, Russia, and Iran agreed to establish four “de-escalation zones” in areas outside the control of the Syrian government. Despite these efforts, the Damascus administration, along with Iranian-backed groups and Russia, persisted in their offensives, reclaiming three out of the four designated regions and advancing towards Idlib.
While Turkey and Russia reached agreements to reinforce ceasefires, attacks have flared up periodically, causing a significant displacement of approximately two million civilians who sought refuge near the Turkish border to evade violence between 2017 and 2020.
In light of recent events, the international community continues to closely monitor the situation in Idlib, striving to uphold peace and protect civilian lives in the conflict-ridden region.
