Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs suggests extending electronic visa stay for foreign nationals

Moscow Working to Extend Duration of Stay for Foreign Nationals on Electronic Visas

Moscow is currently in the process of extending the duration of stay for foreign nationals holding an electronic visa to 30 days, as reported by Alexey Klimov, Director of the Consular Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Earlier in December, Russia expanded the list of countries whose citizens are eligible to enter Russia with a unified electronic visa to 64. The updated list now includes countries such as Barbados, Bhutan, Zimbabwe, and Turkmenistan, among others. However, Serbia and Andorra were removed from the list due to established bilateral agreements on visa-free travel.

Klimov shared that the ministry is actively working on legislative amendments to increase the validity of the unified electronic visa from 60 to 120 days. Additionally, the permitted duration of stay for foreign nationals in Russia on an electronic visa is set to be extended from 16 to 30 days while maintaining its multiple-entry feature.

These changes are part of efforts to boost tourism, business, humanitarian, and guest visits to Russia. Klimov assured that despite these extensions, measures to uphold migration control and ensure national security will be maintained.

The aim is to attract more foreign nationals to visit Russia for various purposes while balancing security concerns. Stay tuned for further updates on these developments.
