Russian Mother Abandons Newborn in Toilet: Shocking Photos Surface
A shocking incident occurred at Antalya Airport when a newborn baby was found in a toilet bowl by cleaning staff. The baby was abandoned by an 18-year-old Russian citizen named Ekaterina Burnazkina just 12 minutes before being discovered. Ekaterina and her mother, Elena Burnazkina, were taken into custody by the Antalya Police Department Airport Branch Directorate teams as they were preparing to leave the country for Moscow.
The newborn baby was immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention, while Ekaterina was also treated at another hospital. However, the grandmother, Elena Burnazkina, was arrested by the court on charges of abandonment and attempted murder.
Ayşegül Kübra Polat, a lawyer registered with the Antalya Bar Association, volunteered to represent Ekaterina and her mother. She clarified that Ekaterina was actually 18 years old, not 28 as reported in the media, and explained that Ekaterina was unaware of her pregnancy until she gave birth.
Polat highlighted the rare phenomenon of cryptic pregnancy, where women do not exhibit typical pregnancy symptoms until late in the gestation period. She emphasized that Ekaterina did not intentionally abandon the baby, but was shocked and confused by the unexpected childbirth in the airport restroom.
Security footage from the airport captured the moments leading up to the incident, showing Ekaterina and her mother arriving at the airport and the subsequent events that unfolded. Despite the public outrage and speculation surrounding the case, Polat urged for understanding and compassion towards Ekaterina and her family, emphasizing the need for a fair and objective evaluation of the circumstances.
Medical experts also confirmed the existence of cryptic pregnancy, a condition where women remain unaware of their pregnancy until giving birth. Doctor Hatice Daş explained that hormonal changes and other factors can mask pregnancy symptoms, particularly in cases of overweight individuals with hormonal disorders.
The incident has sparked discussions about the importance of mental health awareness and support for individuals facing unexpected pregnancies, emphasizing the need for empathy and understanding in such delicate situations.
