Sabiha Gökçen Airport Enters Top 10 Airports in Europe for Air Traffic
Sabiha Gökçen Airport (ISG), managed by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), has made its mark by entering the top 10 airports in Europe with the highest air traffic in the first half of 2024. This is according to the June air traffic report released by Airports Council International (ACI Europe).
The latest figures from ACI reveal that the number of passengers using Sabiha Gökçen in the first 6 months of the year increased by 16.6 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching a total of 19 million 835 thousand 915 passengers.
ISG had a successful year in 2023, serving 37.1 million passengers. It became the second airport in the “mega airports” category, hosting 25 million to 40 million passengers per year. ISG also reported the highest increase in passenger traffic in the first half of 2024, with a growth of 18.5 percent compared to the pre-pandemic period (first half of 2019), according to ACI Europe.
Known as the “city airport” for its diversity in urban transportation and proximity to city centers, ISG offers services to 40 domestic and 125 international destinations in 55 countries. It also has strong connections to 165 destinations overall.
In addition, ISG has expanded its global connection network by opening 9 new international routes since the beginning of 2024. This further solidifies its position as a key player in the aviation industry.
