Savaşan: Fighting Against Violence Towards Women
UBP Nicosia District President, Deputy Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, spoke out on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, calling for urgent action to address the issue.
In his message, Savaşan highlighted the alarming rates of violence against women, particularly in Gaza, where 4 women are killed every hour. He pointed out that the world has remained a mere spectator to this crisis and urged for more decisive action to address the underlying inequality and traditional attitudes towards women that perpetuate such violence.
Savaşan emphasized the need for sustained training and awareness activities to bring about a shift in the dominant mentality that enables violence against women. He stressed that equality is not only a matter of law but also requires a fundamental change in societal attitudes.
The Deputy President also highlighted the prevalence of psychological violence against women, noting that women’s mental health is often targeted through various forms of control and manipulation.
Savaşan called for collaborative efforts between the government, social organizations, women’s groups, public institutions, and universities to address the root causes of gender-based violence and to work towards a more sensitive and supportive social structure.
In conclusion, Savaşan stressed that everyone, regardless of gender, has a role to play in combating violence against women and that it is essential to work together to create a society where women can fully enjoy their rights and live free from fear.
