CHP Mayor Resigns from Party Due to Organizational Betrayal
Nihat Acar, the Mayor of Şavşat district, has announced his resignation from the Republican People’s Party (CHP) citing betrayal from the district organization. In a statement posted on his social media account, Acar expressed his disappointment, stating, “Unfortunately I was betrayed by my own party while carrying out all these works. I was politically lynched by both the current CHP district organization and the previous district organization.”
Acar accused the previous district organization of forcing him to resign by repeatedly complaining to the party headquarters and subjecting him to various political and social pressures. Despite enduring these difficulties out of love and dedication to serving the people of Şavşat, Acar felt compelled to resign in the face of political lynching.
Expressing gratitude to his colleagues and staff who stood by him during this challenging process, Acar extended his respects to everyone and wished them happy and peaceful days.
In the wake of Acar’s resignation, Hakan Gazioğlu emerged as the CHP Şavşat candidate, receiving 114 votes in the primary election held on December 23 to determine the party’s candidate for the district.
The resignation of the mayor has stirred up the political landscape in Şavşat, raising questions about the internal dynamics of the CHP and the implications for the upcoming local elections. It remains to be seen how Acar’s departure will impact the political environment in the district.
