School Trip Tragedy: 4 Students Die in Pond Disaster
Tragedy Strikes Picnic for Turkish High School Students in Akdağ Nature Park
A picnic organized by Hocalar High School turned tragic when two students, a shuttle driver, and a person who came to the area for a picnic lost their lives in a pond in Kocayayla, part of Akdağ Nature Park in Turkey.
Sixteen students, their teachers, and the bus driver took part in the event. While taking a photo on the bridge over the water, one student fell into the pond and his friend jumped in to save him. To help the two students, another person who came to the area for a picnic with the shuttle driver also jumped into the water.
Despite the efforts of those at the scene, the bodies of the two students, identified as Mehmet Küçükoğlu and Halil Erkan, the shuttle driver, Ramazan Aydın, and the person who came to the pond from Konya for a picnic, were found by AFAD divers and medical teams who were sent to the scene.
The tragic incident highlights the importance of taking necessary precautions during school events and picnics. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this heartbreaking event.
