SCO Foreign Ministers Council Meeting to be Held in Astana This Week

ASTANA – The Council of National Coordinators (CNC) of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) recently gathered in the Kazakh capital to discuss the upcoming SCO Foreign Ministers’ Council, slated for May 21. The meeting, as reported by the Foreign Ministry’s press service on May 19, focused on key issues and documents aimed at enhancing cooperation within the SCO in the areas of politics, security, economics, and culture.

During the gathering, national coordinators examined various documents designed to strengthen collaboration within the SCO, including the preparation of the Astana Declaration and the initiative on World Unity for a Just Peace and Harmony. These initiatives are geared towards bolstering confidence-building measures, maintaining stability, and addressing pressing regional development issues.

The upcoming SCO Foreign Ministers’ Council, to be chaired by Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu, will bring together foreign ministers from SCO member states, as well as the SCO Secretary General and Director of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) Executive Committee. The meeting will also delve into preparations for the upcoming SCO Heads of States Council meeting scheduled for July.

Participants in the upcoming meeting are expected to engage in discussions on international and regional agendas, security matters, and the advancement of political, trade, economic, and cultural cooperation within the SCO. Several resolutions pertaining to the final documents of the upcoming SCO summit are set to be signed, in addition to the adoption of a communique.

Notably, Kazakhstan currently holds the chairmanship of the SCO from July 2023 to July of this year, further emphasizing the country’s commitment to advancing cooperation and collaboration within the organization.
