Scythians Could Become Native Ethnic Minority in Hungary

Hungary is considering recognising the Scythian ethnic group as a native minority. The National Election Committee recently discussed a proposal to recognise Scythians as an ethnic minority. The group originated in ancient times and lived in the grassy plains of Europe and Asia. Though their highly mobile, nomadic lifestyle was believed to be their characteristic, a new study claims that Scythians often settled down, contrary to previous beliefs. Currently, Hungary recognises 13 different ethnic minorities, and if the Scythian minority can prove that it has been native to Hungary for at least a century, constitutes a numerical minority among the population, and possesses its own language, culture, and traditions distinct from the rest of the population, the initiative is likely to be accepted.
