Secretary Blinken’s Visit to Gaza-Israel Border Gate

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant met with Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi after visiting the Karim Abu Salim Border Gate, as reported by the Israeli Ministry of Defense.
During the meeting, discussions were held regarding the return of Israeli prisoners and the necessity of continuing military operations to eliminate Hamas. Blinken and Gallant also visited the Nir Oz Jewish settlement in addition to the border gate.
In a video message after the meeting, Gallant emphasized their determination to destroy Hamas and bring the hostages back to their families. They also discussed with Blinken ways to increase the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
As a result of the meeting, it was decided to open the Beit Hanun (Erez) Border Gate and Usdud (Ashdod) Port on the Gaza-Israel border for the passage of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip has led to a severe humanitarian crisis, with more than 24 thousand women and children and over 34 thousand Palestinians losing their lives in Israeli attacks since October 7. Israel is facing charges of genocide at the International Court of Justice for its military actions in the region.
With 2.3 million Palestinians trapped in a small area where land occupation, blockade, and bombardment persist, the situation has resulted in more than 77 thousand injuries and approximately 7 thousand people missing. The health system in the Gaza Strip is on the verge of collapse, with over 1.9 million Palestinians forcibly displaced from their homes.
