Seoul to Continue Loudspeaker Propaganda in Balloon Wars with North Korea
The tension between South Korea and North Korea continues to escalate due to the ongoing balloon wars. In response to Pyongyang’s recent actions, South Korea has decided to take a new move against the North.
During a meeting of the National Security Council, South Korea announced that they would begin loudspeaker broadcasts to North Korea. These broadcasts are intended to be “unbearable” for Kim Jong Un’s regime, but they are also meant to send a message of hope and light to the people of North Korea.
The decision to resume loudspeaker propaganda broadcasts comes after a group of North Korean defectors known as the Free North Korea Fighters (FFNK) sent 20 balloons from South Korea to North Korea last month. The balloons contained 300 thousand leaflets criticizing the Pyongyang administration and 2 thousand USB sticks with K-Pop content.
FFNK Group Chairman Park Sang-hak condemned Kim Jong-un for “opposing unification and trying to maintain his leadership” with South Korea. A banner attached to the balloons proclaimed “Kim Jong-un is a traitor and an enemy of our people.”
The balloon wars have been ongoing between the two Koreas for some time now, and it seems that the tensions are only increasing. South Korea’s latest move to resume loudspeaker broadcasts is sure to further strain the already fragile relationship between the two countries.
