Turkmenistan President and US Special Representative for Climate Issues Discuss Environmental Cooperation
Global environmental issues were the main topic of a recent telephone conversation between Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and US Special Representative for Climate Issues John Kerry. During the conversation, they discussed climate change actions and compared the two countries’ positions on environmental policies.
Turkmenistan, which has been actively cooperating with foreign partners on the environmental track and has acceded to international agreements on the issue, presented its vision for tackling global environmental problems and protecting the environment from the negative impact of anthropogenic factors associated with intensive industrial development.
President Berdimuhamedov highlighted Turkmenistan’s aim to green its oil and gas, energy industry, transport sector, and manufacturing industries, as part of its transition to a “green” economy.
Turkmenistan also suggested UN Regional Climate Technology Center for Central Asia be established in the country under the UN’s auspices. This new structure would facilitate climate change adaptation and mitigation and could prove to be an effective partnership platform.
The American side initiated the telephone conversation, which highlights the significance of the dialogue between the two countries in addressing global environmental issues. Turkmenistan’s willingness to share its vision and work together with other countries on global environmental agendas shows their commitment to a harmonious and sustainable future.
