Shocking Discovery: Baby Found in Toilet, Mother Unaware of Giving Birth
A shocking incident occurred at Antalya Airport, where a newborn baby was found abandoned in a toilet bowl by cleaning staff. The baby, who was discovered on Sunday, October 13, in the evening, was determined to have been abandoned by a young Russian citizen named Ekaterina Burnazkina. It was reported that just 12 minutes before the baby was found, Ekaterina had left the newborn in the toilet and proceeded to complete exit procedures with her mother Elena Burnazkina, as they were planning to travel to Moscow.
Upon receiving the report, the police swiftly investigated the matter, leading to the detention of Ekaterina and her mother at the Antalya Police Department Airport Branch Directorate. The newborn baby was immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention, while Ekaterina received treatment at another healthcare facility.
Subsequently, the grandmother, Elena Burnazkina, was arrested and taken to court after her police procedures. Ekaterina and her mother were also arrested by the judgeship on duty for the offense of ‘attempted deliberate murder.’
During their appearance before the Antalya 3rd High Criminal Court, both grandmother and granddaughter broke down in tears. Legal representation was provided by Ayşegül Kübra Polat and Beyzanur Polat İlya, who acted as volunteer lawyers for the family.
Ekaterina expressed her shock at the situation during the hearing, stating that she was unaware of her pregnancy until the police informed her. Meanwhile, grandmother Elena claimed that they had mistaken the pregnancy for health issues, as they had previously sought medical assistance during a holiday in Alanya.
In a surprising turn of events, the defense put forward the theory of cryptic pregnancy, suggesting that Ekaterina’s lack of awareness about her pregnancy was plausible due to a medical condition where women remain unaware of their pregnancy until the late stages or even the moment of birth. The court decided to appoint a trustee for the baby and release grandmother Elena under judicial control, while Ekaterina remained in detention.
Witnesses at the airport hearing recounted the distressing scene of finding the abandoned baby in the toilet, with security camera footage capturing the moments leading up to the incident. The footage showed Ekaterina and her mother going about their activities at the airport before the events unfolded, shedding light on the events that led to the abandonment of the newborn baby.
