Shymkent International Airport Unveils New Terminal

New Terminal Opens at Shymkent International Airport, Plans to Boost Economic Growth
A new terminal was inaugurated at the Shymkent international airport on Dec. 25, marking a significant milestone for the city’s aviation infrastructure. The terminal will initially cater to local flights, with international flights expected to commence by the end of January.
According to the city’s akimat (administration), the new terminal spans an impressive 39,000 square meters and has created job opportunities for 700 individuals. It boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including 25 escalators, 14 elevators, six jet bridges, and travelators. With an apron designed for 10 aircraft parking spaces, the terminal has the capacity to serve up to 2,000 passengers per hour.
The project, valued at 24 billion tenge (US$46.4 million), was made possible by SCAT Airlines, the primary investor, who successfully fulfilled all obligations. Looking ahead, plans are in place for the construction of an engineering and technical base, a pilot training center, a catering shop, and a passenger hotel. These developments are expected to create more job opportunities and drive economic growth in the region.
Once international flights are operational, the airport is poised to become a key logistics hub, playing a vital role in strengthening trade and economic ties, attracting tourists, and fostering business activities. The increased connectivity and infrastructure improvements are set to have a positive impact on the region’s overall development.
