Simultaneous PKK Raid on 14 Locations in Mersin
14 People Linked to PYD/YPG Detained in Mersin, Turkey
The Provincial Security Directorate Anti-Terrorism (TEM) Branch Directorate teams successfully apprehended 14 individuals who had previously served in the ranks of the PYD/YPG in Syria. The suspects were caught chanting slogans that contained PKK propaganda during this year’s Nevruz event in the central Akdeniz district.
Following the decision made by the prosecutor’s office to detain the individuals involved, the anti-terrorism teams swiftly executed the operation. In collaboration with the special operations units, simultaneous raids were conducted at 14 different locations during the night. The teams, supported by special forces, meticulously searched the houses by breaking down reinforced iron doors with rams. Numerous suspects, who had arrest warrants issued against them, were apprehended during the operation. Once a health check was performed, the detainees were taken into custody.
Out of the 14 targeted individuals, 11 have been taken into custody as a result of the operation carried out in Mersin. It has been reported that efforts are ongoing to capture the remaining three suspects who are currently on the run.
This successful operation not only highlights the efficiency of the TEM Branch Directorate teams but also emphasizes the shared commitment to combating terrorism in Turkey. The PYD/YPG, with their close associations with the PKK, have been consistently regarded as terrorist organizations.
