Hundreds of Taxi Drivers in Istanbul Show Solidarity with Palestine by Forming Convoy
In a powerful demonstration of support for Palestine, hundreds of taxi drivers in Şişli gathered together to protest Israel’s actions. They formed a convoy with their vehicles, traversing the streets of Şişli and making their voices heard. Before embarking on their journey, the taxi drivers assembled on Büyükdere Street, clutching Turkish and Palestinian flags, as they stood united in their cause.
The atmosphere was solemn as they read the National Anthem and observed a moment of silence for the lives lost in the ongoing conflict. Prayers were offered for those who have tragically perished as a result of the violence. The taxi drivers were determined to show their unwavering support for Palestine in the face of adversity.
Deniz Dündar, the President of the Istanbul Taxi Drivers Association, addressed the gathering and emphasized their destination – the Israeli Consulate General in Istanbul. To avoid any potential clashes with security forces, they decided to head in the direction of Taksim. Dündar expressed his anguish over the continuous bombing of Palestinian lands by Israel, which has resulted in the loss of innocent lives, including babies and children.
“As the Istanbul taxi community, we have always stood by our state, nation, and the oppressed,” Dündar stated passionately. “Today, we have gathered to amplify the voices of our brothers and sisters who have suffered and are suffering in Palestine. We demand justice for them.”
After Dündar concluded his press statement, the taxi drivers boarded their vehicles and began their journey towards Taksim. While en route, they chanted slogans condemning Israel, labeling it a “murderer.” Their united presence and fervent protest aimed to draw attention to the dire situation in Palestine and rally support for its people.
The convoy of taxi drivers served as a poignant reminder that unity knows no bounds.
