Snow blankets eastern Turkey in March
Erzurum, Ağrı, Kars, Sarıkamış, and Ardahan all experienced heavy snowfall in the first month of spring, covering the cities in a blanket of white. The snow started as sleet in Erzurum before turning into a full snowfall overnight. Municipal teams were quick to respond, clearing the streets and avenues of snow to ensure smooth transportation for residents.
In Ağrı, the heavy rainfall transitioned into snow, causing a surprise for residents who woke up to find their city coated in white. People took it upon themselves to remove the snow from in front of their homes and workplaces, as village schools and bussed education were suspended due to the harsh weather conditions.
Meanwhile, in Kars, drivers faced challenges navigating the snowy roads, prompting municipal teams to take action. Historical buildings in the city took on a beautiful appearance under the snow cover. In Sarıkamış, the snow depth reached 25 centimeters in the district center and 155 centimeters in the Ski Center, creating difficulties for pedestrians and vehicles alike.
Ardahan also saw significant snowfall, with higher elevations experiencing blizzard conditions. The snowfall in these cities has not only transformed the landscape but also posed challenges for residents and authorities alike. As the winter weather persists, residents are advised to take caution and stay safe in the snowy conditions.
