Sofi: “5 Flights Affected by 1.5 Hour Air Traffic Stop at Ercan”

The Civil Aviation Department Director, Mustafa Sofi, has announced that Ercan Airport experienced a power outage which resulted in the stoppage of air traffic for one and a half hours, affecting 5 planes.

Sofi explained that the generator systems were unable to fully function during the power outage, causing the failure at 12:35. However, the air traffic and airport closure notice was lifted at 14:00, with flights resuming at 14:10.

He also mentioned that the suspension of air traffic resulted in delays for a plane arriving at 3 o’clock and departing at 2 o’clock, affecting both landing and takeoff schedules. Sofi commended the efforts of the Civil Aviation Department staff in rectifying the issue, describing their efforts as “superhuman.”

Sofi assured that necessary precautions were being taken to prevent a similar situation from occurring in the future. This incident serves as a reminder of the critical role of smooth and uninterrupted air traffic and the efforts made to ensure the safety and efficiency of airport operations.
