Soldier accused of raping fellow soldier during Gaza attacks

A lawsuit has been filed against an Israeli reserve soldier for serious sexual crimes, including the rape of a female soldier serving alongside him. The unnamed soldier from the Home Front Command was arrested a few days after the incident, and the indictment against him states that the sexual assault occurred late at night in the weeks following Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip.
According to Israeli state television KAN, this disturbing incident has shed light on a larger issue of sexual harassment within the Israeli army. Israel’s Haaretz newspaper reported that a State Audit Office report from November 28, 2022, revealed that approximately one-third of female soldiers in the Israeli army experienced sexual harassment at least once while serving their compulsory service in 2021.
These revelations have sparked outrage and concern, prompting calls for greater accountability and measures to address the pervasive issue of sexual harassment and assault within the Israeli military. The lawsuit against the reserve soldier serves as a sobering reminder of the need to address and prevent such incidents in the future.
