Somali President’s Son Under Investigation for Courier Hit
The son of the President of Somalia is in the middle of a legal dispute after being allegedly involved in a fatal accident. According to reports, Mohammed Hassan Shekh Mohamud struck motorcycle courier Yunus Emre Göçer with a vehicle belonging to the Somali Consulate in Fatih on November 30, resulting in serious injuries that led to Göçer’s death in the hospital. Subsequently, Mohamud was released after giving a statement at the police station, but a judicial control measure was imposed, preventing him from traveling abroad. An arrest warrant was issued for the suspect for ‘causing death by negligence’, however, it was later discovered that the suspect had left Turkey on December 2.
In the fault report from the Forensic Medicine Institute regarding the accident, it was stated that both parties shared some responsibility. The report indicated that the driver of the car should have taken into account that the motorcycle ahead was changing lanes, while the motorcycle driver did not do sufficient mirror checks regarding the driving situation of the car behind him. Both parties were described as “at fault,” with the driver being primarily responsible and the motorcycle driver being secondarily responsible due to their actions leading up to and during the accident.
